When Caregiving Becomes Too Much: Seniors in Transition
Most Canadians will want to live at their home for as long as possible. Over time, however, circumstances may change with the ageing process and elderly parents become more vulnerable. Unforeseen situations such as mobility reduction or cognitive impairment may make living at home unsafe and risky. Additionally, caregiver stress increases and the burden of care inevitably affects adult children.
There is an ever-increasing trend to downsize from the family home into a retirement home or senior residence. There are also many families choosing to avoid public long-term care facilities and opting for private senior residences.
This presentation will cover the following topics:
- Our ageing population
- The ageing process. Proactive versus reactive.
- Caregiver stress
- The senior living industry
- Public versus private
- What will it cost?
- Searching for the ideal retirement residence
- The transition process
- Helpful hints and pitfalls to avoid
These topics will be addressed during this conference and will be followed by a question/answer period.
